HOMEtruths: Moree Aboriginal Women create safe futures
HOMEtruths is an arts-led project that will engage Aboriginal women in Moree in creative therapeutic processes to create safe futures and reset healthy boundaries.
Commencing in July 2016, HOMEtruths will bring artists/cultural leaders Cathy Craigie, Bibi Barba, Raphaela Rosella and David Leha to Moree to work with vulnerable Aboriginal women on collaborative art-making to heal, empower and create stronger futures. All artists have personal experiences of hardship and are extraordinary role models for others. They will be mentored by trauma specialists Dr Judy Atkinson and Fiona MacFarlane, who has experience with narrative therapy. All participants are guided by BE’s 10 principles of community engagement. Each artist will spend time with the group of women and support them to translate their experiences and stories into artworks – generating written, photographic and painted works. These will be collated into a public event where the works will be presented to the local community and in a Sydney gallery. Local Aboriginal artists will also be engaged – and be mentored by these professional artists, leaving skills in the community
